HP 14 data recovery
We recover files from all 12 HP 14 models (sold 2016–2025), including the 14-am, 14-an, 14-bs and 14-bw, at our London SE1 lab. Most have an NVMe M.2 SSD. Common causes of data loss are a failed drive, liquid, drops and accidental deletion.
Where your files are
14-am, 14-an: The laptop stores your files on a removable 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. Even if the laptop won’t power on, the drive can be taken out and recovered on its own.
14-bs, 14-bw: Depending on the configuration, the laptop has a 2.5-inch hard drive, a SATA SSD, or a hard drive with a small cache SSD. Both are removable, and we check which yours has before starting.
14-ck, 14-cm, 14-cf: Your files are on an M.2 SSD. It is removable, but SSD failures are often controller or firmware faults that need specialist tools to read the flash memory.
14-dk, 14-dq, 14-fq, 14-ep, 14-em: The laptop stores everything on an NVMe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 laptops like this usually have device encryption or BitLocker switched on, so have your Microsoft account ready: the recovery key is stored there.
This series comes in 14-inch versions; the size is part of the model number. Some low-cost versions use soldered eMMC storage; we check the model label.

What’s wrong with it?
| What it is doing | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Laptop starts, then “no bootable device” | The SSD has stopped responding: controller or firmware failure. The data is usually still in the flash chips. |
| BitLocker recovery screen | Find the recovery key in your Microsoft account before anything else. |
| Liquid spilled on it | Switch off and unplug the charger. Corrosion on the SSD or board can be repaired. |
| Blue screens, then nothing | Often a failing SSD. Stop using it. |
| Files deleted | TRIM may already have erased them. Switch off straight away. |
Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows.
Questions about the HP 14
Which HP 14 models do you recover?
All of them, including the 14-am, 14-an, 14-bs, 14-bw, 14-ck, 14-cm, 14-cf, 14-dk, 14-dq, 14-fq, 14-ep, 14-em. If your exact model isn’t listed, we still recover it.
Can you recover data from an HP 14 that won’t turn on?
Usually, yes. These laptops have an NVMe M.2 SSD, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.
Is my data encrypted?
Possibly. Many Windows 10 and 11 laptops switch on device encryption or BitLocker automatically. The recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey. With the key, encryption doesn’t stop the recovery.
How long does it take?
Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.
The first consultation is free and you get a fixed price before any work: see data recovery prices (with a price calculator) and how it works. No data, no recovery fee.
