    Stop before you rebuild

When a NAS reports a crashed or degraded volume, it usually means one drive has failed and another is weak. Starting a repair or rebuild makes every drive work flat out for hours or days, and that is when the second one fails.

Don’t click Repair, Initialise or Reset. Shut the NAS down, label each drive with its bay number and call us.

We image every drive, repair any that have failed, then rebuild the RAID and file system in software. Your original drives are never written to. See also RAID data recovery for servers and desktop RAID.
