BitLocker and encrypted drives
Most Windows 11 laptops, including recent HP models, encrypt their storage automatically. Recovery works as long as you have the recovery key or password.
Finding your recovery key
- Personal laptops: sign in to your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey.
- Work laptops: your IT department can find it in Microsoft Entra ID or Active Directory.
- Look for a printout or a file saved on a USB stick when BitLocker was turned on.
We can’t break strong encryption, and nobody honest can. If the key is lost, call us anyway: backups, old drives and unencrypted copies sometimes help.
