HP ProBook 600 series data recovery
We recover files from all 16 HP ProBook 600 series models (sold 2016–2021), including the ProBook 640 G2, ProBook 640 G3, ProBook 640 G4 and ProBook 640 G5, at our London SE1 lab. They have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well. Common causes of data loss are a failed drive, liquid, drops and accidental deletion.
Where your files are
The HP ProBook 600 series has an M.2 SSD for Windows, and many versions also have a 2.5-inch bay with a second hard drive or SSD for files. Your data may be on either drive, so tell us where you saved things.
This series comes in 14 and 15.6-inch versions; the size is part of the model number. Business laptops are often encrypted by the company’s IT team. If yours was a work laptop, ask your IT department for the BitLocker recovery key.

What’s wrong with it?
| What it is doing | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Clicking, ticking or beeping | The hard drive’s heads have failed. Switch it off: every start can scratch the platters. |
| Dropped, now won’t start | Usually head damage in the hard drive. A cleanroom job; the data is often fine. |
| “No bootable device” | The drive isn’t detected, or Windows is damaged. Often a straightforward recovery. |
| Very slow, freezing | A failing drive with bad sectors. Copy it now, before it gets worse. |
| Files deleted or laptop reset | Logical recovery, as long as the drive hasn’t been used much since. |
Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows.
Questions about the HP ProBook 600 series
Which HP ProBook 600 series models do you recover?
All of them, including the ProBook 640 G2, ProBook 640 G3, ProBook 640 G4, ProBook 640 G5, ProBook 640 G6, ProBook 640 G7, ProBook 640 G8, ProBook 650 G2, ProBook 650 G3, ProBook 650 G4, ProBook 650 G5, ProBook 650 G6 and the rest listed on this page. If your exact model isn’t listed, we still recover it.
Can you recover data from an HP ProBook 600 series that won’t turn on?
Usually, yes. These laptops have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.
Is my data encrypted?
Possibly. Many Windows 10 and 11 laptops switch on device encryption or BitLocker automatically. The recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey. With the key, encryption doesn’t stop the recovery.
How long does it take?
Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.
The first consultation is free and you get a fixed price before any work: see data recovery prices (with a price calculator) and how it works. No data, no recovery fee.
