ProBook 460 G11, ProBook 465 G11: The laptop stores everything on an NVMe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 laptops like this usually have device encryption or BitLocker switched on, so have your Microsoft account ready: the recovery key is stored there.

This series comes in 13.3, 14, 15.6, 16 and 17.3-inch versions; the size is part of the model number. Older generations (G3 to G5) have a 2.5-inch drive or an M.2 SSD; newer ones an NVMe SSD. Many 15-inch and 17-inch ProBooks have a 2.5-inch bay as well as the M.2 slot. Business laptops are often encrypted by the company’s IT team. If yours was a work laptop, ask your IT department for the BitLocker recovery key.

What’s wrong with it?

What it is doingWhat it usually means
Clicking, ticking or beepingThe hard drive’s heads have failed. Switch it off: every start can scratch the platters.
Dropped, now won’t startUsually head damage in the hard drive. A cleanroom job; the data is often fine.
“No bootable device”The drive isn’t detected, or Windows is damaged. Often a straightforward recovery.
Very slow, freezingA failing drive with bad sectors. Copy it now, before it gets worse.
Files deleted or laptop resetLogical recovery, as long as the drive hasn’t been used much since.

Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows.

Questions about the HP ProBook 400 series

Which HP ProBook 400 series models do you recover?

All of them, including the ProBook 430 G3, ProBook 430 G4, ProBook 430 G5, ProBook 430 G6, ProBook 430 G7, ProBook 430 G8, ProBook 440 G3, ProBook 440 G4, ProBook 440 G5, ProBook 440 G6, ProBook 440 G7, ProBook 440 G8 and the rest listed on this page. If your exact model isn’t listed, we still recover it.

Can you recover data from an HP ProBook 400 series that won’t turn on?

Usually, yes. These laptops have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.

Is my data encrypted?

Possibly. Many Windows 10 and 11 laptops switch on device encryption or BitLocker automatically. The recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey. With the key, encryption doesn’t stop the recovery.

How long does it take?

Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.

The first consultation is free and you get a fixed price before any work: see data recovery prices (with a price calculator) and how it works. No data, no recovery fee.
