HP Pavilion data recovery

We recover files from all 20 HP Pavilion models (sold 2015–2023), including the Pavilion 15-ab, Pavilion 14-ab, Pavilion 15-au and Pavilion 15-aw, at our London SE1 lab. Most have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well. Common causes of data loss are a failed drive, liquid, drops and accidental deletion.

Where your files are

Pavilion 15-ab, Pavilion 14-ab: The laptop stores your files on a removable 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. Even if the laptop won’t power on, the drive can be taken out and recovered on its own.

Pavilion 15-au, Pavilion 15-aw, Pavilion 14-al, Pavilion 14-av: Depending on the configuration, the laptop has a 2.5-inch hard drive, a SATA SSD, or a hard drive with a small cache SSD. Both are removable, and we check which yours has before starting.

Pavilion 15-cc, Pavilion 15-cd, Pavilion 14-bf, Pavilion 14-bk, Pavilion 15-cs, Pavilion 15-cw, Pavilion 14-ce, Pavilion 14-cd: The laptop has an M.2 SSD for Windows, and many versions also have a 2.5-inch bay with a second hard drive or SSD for files. Your data may be on either drive, so tell us where you saved things.

Pavilion 13-an, Pavilion 13-bb, Pavilion 14-dv, Pavilion 14-ec, Pavilion 15-eg, Pavilion 15-eh: The laptop stores everything on an NVMe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 laptops like this usually have device encryption or BitLocker switched on, so have your Microsoft account ready: the recovery key is stored there.

This series comes in 13.3, 14 and 15.6-inch versions; the size is part of the model number. An M.2 SSD, often with Intel Optane cache or a 2.5-inch hard drive alongside.

What’s wrong with it?

What it is doingWhat it usually means
Clicking, ticking or beepingThe hard drive’s heads have failed. Switch it off: every start can scratch the platters.
Dropped, now won’t startUsually head damage in the hard drive. A cleanroom job; the data is often fine.
“No bootable device”The drive isn’t detected, or Windows is damaged. Often a straightforward recovery.
Very slow, freezingA failing drive with bad sectors. Copy it now, before it gets worse.
Files deleted or laptop resetLogical recovery, as long as the drive hasn’t been used much since.

Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows.

Questions about the HP Pavilion

Which HP Pavilion models do you recover?

All of them, including the Pavilion 15-ab, Pavilion 14-ab, Pavilion 15-au, Pavilion 15-aw, Pavilion 14-al, Pavilion 14-av, Pavilion 15-cc, Pavilion 15-cd, Pavilion 14-bf, Pavilion 14-bk, Pavilion 15-cs, Pavilion 15-cw and the rest listed on this page. If your exact model isn’t listed, we still recover it.

Can you recover data from an HP Pavilion that won’t turn on?

Usually, yes. These laptops have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.

Is my data encrypted?

Possibly. Many Windows 10 and 11 laptops switch on device encryption or BitLocker automatically. The recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey. With the key, encryption doesn’t stop the recovery.

How long does it take?

Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.

The first consultation is free and you get a fixed price before any work: see data recovery prices (with a price calculator) and how it works. No data, no recovery fee.
