HP Pavilion Gaming data recovery

We recover files from all 8 HP Pavilion Gaming models (sold 2015–2021), including the Pavilion Gaming 15-ak, Pavilion Gaming 15-bc, Pavilion Gaming 17-ab and Pavilion Gaming 15-cx, at our London SE1 lab. Most have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well. Common causes of data loss are a failed drive, liquid, drops and accidental deletion.

Where your files are

Pavilion Gaming 15-ak, Pavilion Gaming 15-bc, Pavilion Gaming 17-ab: Depending on the configuration, the laptop has a 2.5-inch hard drive, a SATA SSD, or a hard drive with a small cache SSD. Both are removable, and we check which yours has before starting.

Pavilion Gaming 15-cx, Pavilion Gaming 15-dk, Pavilion Gaming 15-ec, Pavilion Gaming 16-a, Pavilion Gaming 17-cd: The laptop has an M.2 SSD for Windows, and many versions also have a 2.5-inch bay with a second hard drive or SSD for files. Your data may be on either drive, so tell us where you saved things.

This series comes in 15.6, 16 and 17.3-inch versions; the size is part of the model number. An M.2 NVMe SSD and, on many versions, a 2.5-inch hard drive for games and files. Gaming laptops run hot, and heat shortens SSD and hard drive life. If games or projects matter, tell us which folders to prioritise.

What’s wrong with it?

What it is doingWhat it usually means
Clicking, ticking or beepingThe hard drive’s heads have failed. Switch it off: every start can scratch the platters.
Dropped, now won’t startUsually head damage in the hard drive. A cleanroom job; the data is often fine.
“No bootable device”The drive isn’t detected, or Windows is damaged. Often a straightforward recovery.
Very slow, freezingA failing drive with bad sectors. Copy it now, before it gets worse.
Files deleted or laptop resetLogical recovery, as long as the drive hasn’t been used much since.

Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows.

Questions about the HP Pavilion Gaming

Which HP Pavilion Gaming models do you recover?

All of them, including the Pavilion Gaming 15-ak, Pavilion Gaming 15-bc, Pavilion Gaming 17-ab, Pavilion Gaming 15-cx, Pavilion Gaming 15-dk, Pavilion Gaming 15-ec, Pavilion Gaming 16-a, Pavilion Gaming 17-cd. If your exact model isn’t listed, we still recover it.

Can you recover data from an HP Pavilion Gaming that won’t turn on?

Usually, yes. These laptops have an M.2 SSD, often with a 2.5-inch drive as well, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.

Is my data encrypted?

Possibly. Many Windows 10 and 11 laptops switch on device encryption or BitLocker automatically. The recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account at aka.ms/myrecoverykey. With the key, encryption doesn’t stop the recovery.

How long does it take?

Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.

The first consultation is free and you get a fixed price before any work: see data recovery prices (with a price calculator) and how it works. No data, no recovery fee.
