When this SSD’s controller or firmware fails it often shows the wrong name or capacity, or disappears. The data is usually still in the flash chips and is recovered with specialist SSD tools.

Like all modern SSDs it uses TRIM, so deleted files are usually erased within minutes. Switch the computer off straight away if you deleted something by mistake.

How we recover it

We read the SSD with specialist tools that talk to the controller directly, repair or bypass the firmware, and copy the flash before recovering your files from the copy.

Drives like this are fitted to many HP laptops, from the HP 15 and Pavilion to EliteBooks. See HP laptop data recovery.

Questions

Can a failed Kingston NVMe SSD KC3000 be recovered?

In most cases, yes. Controller and firmware faults are the most common SSD failures, and the data is usually still in the flash chips.

What should I do now?

Stop using it. Don’t update the firmware or format it.
